我腦海中浮現的聖經經文是
恆春基督教醫院第一任院長 黃斯德醫師

我來自一個基督教家庭，我為我的父母感謝上帝。父親是路德教會傳道人（1900年出生），母親（1905年出生）是小學教師。我出生於1939年，那年第二次世界大戰在芬蘭爆發，蘇聯想要得到芬蘭並開始在11月爆發戰爭。那是一場冬季的戰爭，雖然只打了4個月，因為冬天很冷，當時接近10萬芬蘭人和3倍的蘇聯人死亡。有鑑於和平談判並不容易，芬蘭不得不做出讓步。
在恆春醫療傳道見證
唸大學一年級時，我向上帝承諾，如果我成為一位醫師，我想成為非洲的傳教士醫師。1965年，我畢業於赫爾辛基醫學院後，芬蘭傳道會卻派我去台灣，因為那時台灣需要一個傳道人醫師。1966年8月，我和妻子黃瑪莉一同來台灣服事，1968年開始來台的宣教工作，並參與恆春基督教診所（現恆春基督教醫院）事工，成為當時診所裡唯一的醫師，服務眾多內科疾病、小兒科及肺病等民眾，直到1971年我們回到芬蘭。
1967-1968年在恆春建築一層樓診所時，面臨一個重要的考量，就是要不要把這建築物建得很堅固，方便以後加蓋第二層或蓋成醫院呢？但是當時芬蘭傳道會決定不要在台灣經營醫院，因此就沒有考慮建第二層。
我不是芬蘭傳道會差派的第一個醫師。芬蘭傳道會1907年差派
Hannes Heikinheimo前往中國湖南；1908年差派
Selma Rainio前往西非。芬蘭傳道會差派到中國的醫師經歷了非常艱難的時期，
Heikinheimo的妻子死於志賀氏菌病，他自己得了肺結核，於是芬蘭傳道會將他調回芬蘭。
1966-1971年，我來到台灣，在恆春基督教診所當醫師。邵樂美醫師於1971-1974年來到恆春幫忙。1978年，我本來想要再回來台灣，但妻子（
Marja）的母親需要照顧，而妻子本身於1979年得知罹患癌症，就終止了這個想法。當時恆春基督教診所缺乏醫師的情形依然嚴重，直到路加傳道會來幫忙。我覺得，路加傳道會和芬蘭傳道會的簽約是恆基的福氣。
60年代的同工都認為，醫療工作對傳耶穌的福音及教會的成長是重要的。我想現在也如此，將來還是如此。至於將來的醫療工作更需要注重預防醫學及復健來保持老人們的身心功能健康。
以下的經文一直在我腦海中浮現：
【馬太福音4章4節】耶穌卻回答說：「經上記着說：人活着，不是單靠食物，乃是靠神口裏所出的一切話。」
【以賽亞書55章11節】我口所出的話也必如此，決不徒然返回，卻要成就我所喜悅的，在我發他去成就（發他去成就：或譯所命定）的事上必然亨通。
【以賽亞書42章1-10節】看哪，我的僕人－我所扶持所揀選、心裡所喜悅的！我已將我的靈賜給他；他必將公理傳給外邦。他不喧嚷，不揚聲，也不使街上聽見他的聲音。壓傷的蘆葦，他不折斷；將殘的燈火，他不吹滅。他憑真實將公理傳開。他不灰心，也不喪膽，直到他在地上設立公理；海島都等候他的訓誨。創造諸天，鋪張穹蒼，將地和地所出的一併鋪開，賜氣息給地上的眾人，又賜靈性給行在其上之人的神耶和華，他如此說：我－耶和華憑公義召你，必攙扶你的手，保守你，使你作眾民的中保（中保：原文是約），作外邦人的光，開瞎子的眼，領被囚的出牢獄，領坐黑暗的出監牢。我是耶和華，這是我的名；我必不將我的榮耀歸給假神，也不將我的稱讚歸給雕刻的偶像。看 哪，先前的事已經成就，現在我將新事說明，這事未發以先，我就說給你們聽。航海的和海中所有的，海島和其上的居民，都當向耶和華唱新歌，從地極讚美他。
【哈巴谷書2章1-3節】我要站在守望所，立在望樓上觀看，看耶和華對我說甚麼話，我可用甚麼話向他訴冤（向他訴冤：或譯回答所疑問的）。他對我說：將這默示明明地寫在版上，使讀的人容易讀（或譯：隨跑隨讀）。因為這默示有一定的日期，快要應驗，並不虛謊。雖然遲延，還要等候；因為必然臨到，不再遲延。
有關「為什麼芬蘭傳道會（
FMS）成立這麼晚（公元1859年）」的一些想法：
我們的主出生於2023年前，即西元0年。芬蘭人於西元前1250-800年遷往芬蘭半島；西元1150-1300年，羅馬天主教對芬蘭進行了三次十字軍東征。1323年瑞典和諾夫哥羅德簽訂的
Pähkinäsaari條約，瑞典佔領了芬蘭的主要部分。1809-1917年芬蘭在俄羅斯統治下。1917年以前，沒有獨立的芬蘭。
古騰堡於1450年發現印刷術，可以印刷書和聖經。1517年馬丁路德宗教改革（95篇論文），馬丁路德翻譯的德文聖經，新約於1521年完成，整本聖經於1534年完成。瑞典國王於1536年派米凱爾·阿格里科拉（
Mikael Agricola）去見路德，而不是見教皇。
米凱爾·阿格里科拉發展了芬蘭書面語文，ABC書於1543年出版，新約聖經於1548年翻譯。由芬蘭教會、牧師和領唱來教導芬蘭人讀書。路德會的主教和牧師在1838年9月試圖阻止復興。當時大型復興運動的一位非宗教領袖（帕沃·魯特蘇萊寧）被罰款，因為法律禁止家庭聚會（公約法：
SW1726-1858、
SF1726-1870）
結論：為什麼芬蘭傳道會成立這麼晚（西元1859年）？
1. 羅馬天主教會沒有將神的話語傳給平信徒。
2. 芬蘭並未獨立。
3. 1600-1870年間路德教會拒絕在家中聚會。
4. 芬蘭人民缺乏權力、成熟度和自主權。

作者簡介
生長於牧師家庭的黃斯德醫師，1965年畢業於赫爾辛基醫學院，期間學習外科、內科、小兒科、熱帶醫學、肺結核照護等課程。1966年8月和神學家妻子黃瑪莉一同來台服事，1968年便於南台灣開始宣教工作，並參與恆春基督教診所成立之事工，成為當時診所唯一的醫師，服務眾多內科疾病、小兒科、肺病等民眾。
Part I
The Bible verses which have been in my mind are
1. Matthew 4:4 and Isaiah 55:11 （God's word is powerful）,
【Matthew 4:4】（NIV）Jesus answered, 「It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.」
【Isaiah 55:11】（NIV）So is my word that goes out from my mouth：It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
2. Isaiah 42:1-10 （God's servant is powerful）is
【Isaiah 42:1-10】（NIV）“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; He will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.” This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.” Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them.
3. sometimes God's answer comes late （Habakkuk 2:1-3）or not at all.
【Hab2:1-3】（NIV）I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
Part II
Some thoughts about 「Why FMS was founded so late （1859 AD）」
These words came out of the mouth of our Lord when he was tempted in wilderness:
Matthew 4:4 A man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.
Isaiah 55:11 so will my message be that what goes out of my mouth—
it won’t return to me empty. Instead, it will accomplish what I desire,and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Conclusions: Why FMS was founded so late （1859 AD）?
1. Roman Catholic Church did not give God’s word to lay people
2. Finland was not independent
3. Lutheran Church denied gatherings at homes in 1600-1870
4. Lack of power, maturity and autonomy of Finnish people
